Coordinator, Medical Coding Certificate Program
Responsibilities:
Full-time temporary position (3 year Dept. of Labor Grant).
Responsible for teaching students in theory, lab and clinical with
an emphasis on ICD-9-CM and CPT coding, reimbursement methodologies,
clinical documentation, health data content and structure, and other
courses as assigned. In accordance with College policies and
procedures, the coordinator will participate in advising students;
maintain office hours; serve on college committees; participate in
college events; maintain professional certification; and participate
in professional development activities. Teaching assignments may
include days, evenings, online and/or teaching at multiple campus
locations. Other duties include ensuring enrollment; conducting
graduate and employer surveys; reviewing and preparing syllabi;
scheduling courses; preparing handbooks; recruiting and mentoring
faculty; developing competency testing; coordinating the coding
professional practice experience; developing online courses; developing an
in-house coding professional practice experience and other duties as
assigned.
Requirements:
Three years work experience as a RHIA, RHIT, or CCS. Must be able to
use common software programs and manage data using technology as
well as demonstrate the ability to implement the use of technology
in Medical Coding education. Must demonstrate creativity and
innovation in the field; sensitivity to a diverse student body;
experience in building and maintaining relationships; and excellent
verbal and written communication skills. Successful candidate must
be able to effectively plan, organize, and manage in a complex,
fast-paced environment. Must have a combination of HIM work
experience and professional certifications with evidence of
proficiency. Requires Associates degree in Health Information
Management or related field, Bachelor’s preferred. Tuition
reimbursement will be offered for associate degree HIT candidates to
obtain a bachelor’s degree in HIM.
