Description: Full-time, 180-day (plus supplemental) contract position beginning spring of 2010. Individual will divide time between faculty duties and Sciences Learning Center coordinator duties. Prepare and deliver high quality day, evening and/or weekend course instruction in sciences. Act as supporting faculty member for the Sciences Department. Review, revise and develop curriculum; participate in faculty meetings and professional development opportunities, support quality improvement in the department and the College, and participate in departmental and institutional committee work and other college-wide activities. As coordinator, will oversee the daily operation of the Sciences Learning Center, including hiring and training student personnel in order to increase student retention and improve student performance in science courses. Assist in planning and implementation of science tutoring services and strategies focused on improving student performance.
Requirements: Master’s degree in biology, chemistry or a science related field. Minimum of 2 years of instructional experience in a tutoring or learning center environment. Familiarity and experience with various tutoring strategies or programs. Functional familiarity with a broad range of instructional, diagnostic, and assessment technologies appropriate to developmental and college level science courses. Experience in instructional technologies required. Flexibility in approach and ability to work effectively with various departments and divisions. Ability to teach both developmental and college level courses. Must have superb organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Requires software proficiency including word processing, spreadsheet and database applications as well as the ability to work independently.
