Student Support Specialist / Outreach Education

Description: This position is full-time, grant funded position with possibility of grant renewal of up to three years. Responsibilities include: providing learning support/assistive technology assistance to current Stark State students eligible for RSC; providing outreach education and resources to transition students in Stark, Summit, Portage, and other surrounding counties. Additional responsibilities include: Design an ongoing model utilizing best practices for students with severe disabilities, including the recruiting and training of peer mentors; provide learning support skills including organizational skills, tutoring in entry-level subject areas; provide support with assistive technology/equipment; serve as an Outreach Educator for transition aged students who have identified postsecondary education as a goal and facilitate students transitioning from high school to the post secondary level; maintain statistics on students served, services provided, and outcomes met for reporting to the THEME Project Director.

Requirements: A bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, or related field is required. Must have experience working with individuals with disabilities; grant experience preferred. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written are required. Ability to train students in study skills, organizational skills, and overall Stark State navigation as well as have the ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with community partners (i.e. teachers, RSC counselors, community vendors, etc.) is required. Must be able to use office equipment, personal computers, etc.; and have the ability to use Stark State/Banner software for the purpose of word processing, tracking, and assisting students.
