Stark State College Features Artwork of Tallmadge Artist Margot Eiseman

“Where Poppies Grow,” a hand-painted silk banner by Margot Eiseman of Tallmadge

(North Canton, OH – Sept. 22, 2009)“Four Themes in Silk – Nature, Family, Venice and Healing” is the title of an art show by Tallmadge Artist Margot Eiseman, currently on display through October 30 at the Stark State College Art Gallery in the Student Center.  A public reception for the artist will be hosted Oct. 8 from 6-8 p.m. in S204/205 on the second floor of the Center at 6200 Frank Ave. in Jackson Township.

Eiseman has a bachelor of fine arts degree and art teacher certification from Eastern Michigan University, a master’s degree in textile design from the University of Iowa, and additional course work in women and art history.

Eiseman’s primary medium is silk.  Her creations include paintings, prints, collages, scarves for wearing and free-flowing banners, all fitting the four themes of the show. Her explorations in silk painting began in 1990 with the study of portraits, utilizing her daughter and students as models.

Art, nature, her Venetian Italian heritage and The Book of Ecclesiastes, as well as her survival from ovarian cancer, have all impacted her works.

She has exhibited at the Cleveland Museum of Art, Butler Institute in Youngstown, Heritage Gallery in Canal Fulton, and the Summit Art Space and We Gallery, both in Akron. Her work will be displayed at Violet’s Cupboard Health and Lifestyle Expo in Akron Oct. 10, Stewart’s Caring Place Holiday Boutique in Akron Oct. 24, and Akron Art Museum Holiday Sale Dec. 17. The College Art Gallery is open to the public from 8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. -  4 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.- noon Saturday.  Most of the artwork is for sale, with 10 percent of the proceeds going to the College’s Aesthetics Fund for the purchase of artwork for the campus.  For additional information about the show or to make purchases, contact Rebecca Priest at 330-494-6170, Ext. 4319.
