Meeting Minutes February
14, 2008 Chapter President Sandra
Crossen called the meeting to order at 12:08 p.m. with 5 officers, 4
alumni, 5 members, and 1 guest present. Jeremy Smith gave our monthly
budget report: the current budget in our account is $4,004.35. Sandra Crossen mentioned a fund
raising opportunity that is still ongoing. The Great 08-09 Nut Sale
continues on April 8 & 9 in the atrium and cafeteria from 10 a.m.-6
p.m.. Sandra Crossen awarded the
second Enhanced Member star to Heather Lowe. She and Martina Caitlin
were also awarded a Teamwork Member pin for their dedication above and
beyond the call of duty. Cherie Barth gave a brief
update about the Hites Foundation $1/member campaign - basically we are
very close to our goal. David Sigmund announced that
the Ohio Region Phi Theta Kappa Specialty License Plate Initiative is in
the final stages of approval. Jennifer Garrison is being looked at as a
co-sponsor for the bill. David also mentioned that Beth Klein was
helping design a new Ohio Region logo which will be introduced at the
Awards Convention in March. Heather Lowe reported on the
canned food drive, USO collections, and stuffed animal collections. The
total number of donations has yet to be tabulated. Martin Dimitrov talked about
updates to the chapter web site and Sandra Crossen talked about the
ANGEL system and Facebook. The Facebook Book Activity club now includes
80 members from around the country (as well as a gentleman from
Nigeria). Jeremy Smith presented an idea
that he was working on: a Health Care Paradox web site. The site would
include information on how to start up a free clinic as well as a health
insurance database of providers, including schools and free clinics.
Jeremy asked for a vote to secure $10 in order to reserve a domain
name for a year. The measure passed with no opposition. Cherie Barth explained a little
about what it takes to be a chapter officer and the responsibilities
that they have. Sandra Crossen presented
Martina Caitlin with a pin, a framed certificate signed by our Regional
Coordinator Cindy Carbone, and flowers for being named as the Ohio
Region most Valuable Member at the Leadership Conference in November. Cherie Barth reminded all about
the various scholarships that were still available. The Ohio Region
includes the Honors Institute ($800+), Buckeye ($500), John Kessler
($200), and Leaders of Promise ($500) scholarships. International
includes a Leaders of Promise ($1,000) as well. More information can be
found on
www.ohioptk.org and
www.ptk.org. Cherie Barth announced that One
Voice will be held in Columbus on March 4th. One Voice is an opportunity
for two members of the chapter to travel to the state capitol, have
lunch, and converse with state legislators about political issues. Sandra Crossen announced that
the next Serve and Lead event will be held at West Stark Free Clinic and
New Beginnings on February 28th from 8 a.m. - noon. The
organizations need help with painting and electrical work. Cherie Barth made the following
announcements: Open House will be held on Sunday, March 29th at the
college, an Ohio Region chapter was planning another service trip to
Guatemala, and the Jackson/Belden Food Fest is looking for volunteers to
