General Meeting Minutes

March 14, 2009


Chapter President Sandra Crossen called the meeting to order at 12:10 p.m. with 4 officers, 4 alumni, 3 members, and 10 new members present.

Jeremy Smith gave our monthly budget report: the current budget in our account is $5,774.61. He also mentioned a fund raising opportunity that is still ongoing. The Great 08-09 Nut Sale continues on April 8 in the cafeteria and April 9 in the atrium from 10 a.m.-6 p.m..

No new Enhanced Member stars were awarded this month.

Cherie Barth announced that the Hites Foundation $1/member campaign has surpassed its goal with over $170 raised.

Sandy Crossen reported that there are 4 members on the Relay for Life Survivor Dinner Committee and Jeremy Smith reported that there is only 1 on the Entertainment Committee. Both are looking for additional volunteers.

Sandy Crossen mentioned that there are now 136 members worldwide in the Facebook Book Activity Club.

Jeremy Smith announced that the health care paradox website is now up and running at healthcareparadox.com, although still very much a work in progress.

Cherie Barth talked about how the official Ohio Region logo grew out of the Ohio Region License Plate Initiative. She also clarified that all sales of the t-shirt with the logo will feed into a scholarship to benefit the entire Ohio region.

Heather Lowe reported that 1,508 items were collected for the canned food drive, 107 personal care items for the USO collections, and 642 stuffed animals for the local law enforcement agencies.

Sandy Crossen mentioned that it was too cold to paint the outside signs during the last visit to the West Stark Clinic. The next work day is scheduled for March 28 to apply the second coat of paint to the interior walls.

Cherie Barth explained how important the Ohio Region Awards Convention is in regard to the hallmark essays that the officers submitted. She also remarked that two members of the chapter are running for regional offices: Sandy Crossen for Secretary and Jeremy Smith for NE District Representative.

The informal induction of Spring 2009 members was presided over by Cherie Barth. We welcomed 10 new members into the chapter.

The chapter bylaws were reviewed by Jeremy Smith and the following proposed changes were discussed:

Article 3 - Officer positions clarified

Article 6 - Officer elections section cut down

Article 7 - Impeachment clarified

Article 9 - Added conduct policy

Article 10 was removed for redundancy reasons

A second reading of the bylaws and a vote will be held at the April meeting.

Dr. Para Jones, Vice President of Advancement, Planning, and College/Community Relations held a hour long focus group on student marketing. Some of the topics discussed were Stark State marketing information, scheduling, online classes, and suggestions for marketing improvement.

The 2009-2010 Chapter Officer nominations were opened by Cherie Barth. The current nominees are:

Nominations will be reopened and the vote held at the April meeting.

Sandy Crossen announced that the team is now being formed for the Relay for Life event that will be held on June 12 and 13 at Jackson High School. Candy bars are also for sale for $1 to benefit the American Cancer Society.

Sandy Crossen tabled the last two new business announcements till April due to time considerations. She then closed the meeting with the following announcements:

- EnviroFun Volunteers Needed - March 18 (8:30-Noon) and March 19 (7:30 a.m.-3:00 p.m.)

- Next meeting - Saturday, April 11 - Noon - Room TBA (Election of 2009-2010 Officers)

- Spring Fling - Thursday, April 30 - 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.

- Formal Induction Ceremony - Sunday, April 26 - 2:00 p.m. - Atrium

- Spring Graduation - Sunday, May 17 - 2:00 p.m. - Canton Civic Center

Before the meeting was adjourned, Teri Williamson requested on behalf of the alumni that they be represented at the International Convention. Pictures of said alumni were furnished and promises of "proof of life" secured from those attending.

The meeting was adjourned at 1:55 p.m. by Sandy Crossen.
