POST SECONDARY STUDENT ACTIVITIES
What is the THEME Project? The THEME Project is a grant that helps promote success in postsecondary education and will improve employment outcomes. The goal is to provide supports, educational tools, and resources and increase employment training opportunities for students within their educational and rehabilitation goals.
Who is eligible? Students who have an open case with RSC and are receiving services from Disability Support Services may be eligible for some or all of the following activities designed to improve college success and employment outcomes.
What services will be available to students? To achieve these goals, the project will engage a variety of education and training tools including;
- Mentoring, including assistance with organizational skills and study skills
- Career exploration assistance
- Assessment/assistance with adaptive equipment or technology
- Developmental reading supports
- Assistance with transitioning to four year colleges or universities and the disability supports available at those institutions
- Short term mental health counseling and referral
- Job shadowing, Job seeking skills training
- Assistance with obtaining internships, summer work experience
- Job placement assistance upon graduation

TRANSITION
High School Transitional Student Activities (Stark County)
What are the THEME projects transitional services? Transition services will promote educational success and transition of Stark County high school seniors with disabilities who have identified college or training programs as a goal. Priorities will include improving graduation rates, providing educational tools and resources, and assisting with the overall transition to college or work programs based on educational and rehabilitation goals.
Who is eligible? Stark County high school seniors who have an open case with BVR and have identified postsecondary education as a goal.
What services will be available to students? To achieve these goals, the project will engage a variety of education and training tools including;
- Mentoring, including assistance with organizational skills and study skills
- Career exploration assistance
- Assessment/assistance with adaptive equipment or technology
- Assistance with preparation for postsecondary schools including visits, assistance with FAFSA and scholarship completion, connecting with Disability Support Services
- Short term mental health counseling and referral
- Job shadowing
- Assistance with obtaining internships, summer work experience
- Job placement and coaching
How will referrals be made?
- If you are interested in THEME and have an open case with BVR, please contact your BVR counselor or the THEME office at 330 494-6170 ext. 4485.
- RSC counselors will also identify students that are currently enrolled or plan to enroll in Stark State certificate or degree programs, and submit referrals to THEME Project Director, Lisa Gilliland at 330 494-6170 ext. 4359, LGilliland@starkstate.edu.
- Students receiving services from DSS who do not have an open RSC case may contact the THEME office and will receive assistance with completing an RSC referral to determine eligibility for service.
