Law Enforcement Academy

Jeffrey HagerMake a real difference in the world and make your first step Stark State College’s law enforcement academy.

Stark State’s law enforcement academy prepares you to pursue one of a number of careers in law enforcement, including municipal, township or village police officer; deputy sheriff; state wildlife officer and other law enforcement positions. It’s an intensive program, operated in cooperation with the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission and the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.

All instructors are certified by the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission. Part-time and full-time academies are available to fit your needs.

When you complete the law enforcement academy program and pass the practical exercises, you’ll be eligible to take the Ohio Basic Peace Officer Certification examination.

Background checks are submitted to the BCI and FBI before acceptance into the program. Those who have been convicted of a felony, domestic violence, or drug conviction are not eligible for the law enforcement academy.

Passing a physical fitness test is required for admission into the academy. The specific standards you need to pass can be found on the OPOTA website. Physical fitness tests are offered once a month.

Upcoming academy dates

  • Full-time academy: Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., spring semester only
