(North Canton, OH – May 5, 2021) – Governor Mike DeWine has appointed Tracy L. Carter to the Board of Trustees of Stark State College.

Carter began her career at Summa Health Akron City Hospital as an INROADS college intern and ultimately assumed leadership responsibility of the health system’s external affairs functions. Under her leadership, the health system earned regional and state awards for its diversity and inclusion commitment and corporate citizenship efforts.

In 2018, Carter was recognized by Modern Healthcare and Becker’s Hospital Review as one of the top minority executives in healthcare. She co-chaired a collaborative that helped 60,000 Akron-Canton residents gain health coverage through Ohio’s Medicaid expansion program.

She continued to advocate for regional healthcare opportunities by serving as vice president of government relations for Ohio’s second largest public health system, the MetroHealth System. Carter’s government relations team was effective in advancing policy to help the health system earn new revenues and expand business into new markets. Her team also partnered with hospital campus transformation leadership to successfully advance zoning and permitting requests in support of a new $750 million development project. Carter returned to Summa Health to lead the system’s public policy and funding interests with federal, state, and local elected officials and government entities.

She recently served on The Center for Health Affairs Board of Directors and was co-chair of the First Year Cleveland Pregnancy and Infant Loss Committee.  Carter currently serves as vice chair of The Akron Civil Service Commission and serves on the Akron Community Foundation and The Well CDC Boards of Directors. She is a volunteer with Love Akron and the Greater Cleveland COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund Phase II Strategy Team.

Carter is an alumna of Ohio University, The University of Michigan and The Advisory Board Company’s inaugural fellowship program. She is a graduate of the Leadership Akron and Cleveland programs.

Her term runs through Aug. 1, 2023.
