Stark State College IMA wins prestigious national award for third year running

(North Canton, OH – June 18, 2021) –  Stark State’s Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) student chapter has won the prestigious Clark Johnson Achievement Award for 2021, the third year in a row for the achievement.

The chapter was recognized by the national IMA for efforts best reflecting the characteristics of Clark Johnson, a long-time chief financial officer at Johnson & Johnson, that include outstanding leadership through innovation, organizational development and interdependent partnerships.

Stark State has been the first two-year college to win the award, which includes a $5,000 prize from Johnson & Johnson.

The SSC chapter’s 2021 project, completed despite the limitations of the pandemic, was titled Black Scholars Matter: Engaging Black Scholars. Club members created a Facebook page, Twitter page and YouTube videos showcasing interviews of Black faculty, staff and students in which each person answered five questions about the value of higher education (www.facebook.com/BlackScholarsMatter/).

Brodie Yoder was the SSC IMA Student Club president for the year and Jane Upperman, associate professor in the SSC accounting and finance department, is the club’s advisor.
