Stark State College Akron

Mayor Daniel Horrigan Akron Endowed Scholarship

Daniel L. HorriganMayor Daniel Horrigan played an integral part in establishing Stark State College in Akron to provide affordable, quality education to residents in the city and throughout Summit County.

From its inception, Mayor Horrigan was an advocate of the project, beginning with making 11 acres of prime real estate available to the College at an extremely reasonable lease rate. He continued his support of the project’s construction, from groundbreaking to the addition of the College’s eye-catching signage along Route 8.

The Mayor also helped bring a Stark State education to Akron city employees via a creative arrangement with the College. In lieu of a lease or purchase of the six acres of ideal land for Stark State’s CDL Training Center at Picton Parkway, he negotiated an agreement that allows city employees to take Stark State classes for free.

The Mayor’s background in education has been instrumental in his understanding of what Stark State College has to offer Akron residents. As a former teacher, he understands the power of education and how it can transform a community.

Stark State College joins Akron in thanking him for his leadership in changing lives and building futures.
