Student Leadership Academy is a joint program between Kent State University at Stark and Stark State College. The academy is designed to help you learn about yourself and develop valuable skills when it works for you!
Our program is based on critical skills employers look for: communication, leadership, financial literacy, goal-setting, cultural competency and professionalism.
If you want to build your resume, enhance your online professional presence, meet new people and prove that you are motivated, then Student Leadership Academy is a great choice! No previous leadership experience is necessary.

Let us know you’re planning to participate by registering for your sessions of choice below. Attend four sessions over the academic year and earn a certificate. It’s that simple. Session descriptions are listed below.

Mental health (for college students)

- In this session you will gain an understanding multi-dimensional personal wellness, developing good habits for regular self-care, and practicing boundary- setting skills to maintain a balanced plate.
F*R*I*E*N*D*S: The one with communication, connection, and leadership
Join us remotely for this engaging and interactive session that will focus on the topics of communication, connection, and leadership. These three helpful areas will teach us how to create meaningful friendships and relationship building skills.

Position Yourself for Success: The Power of “I AM”
- In this personal leadership-focused session, participants will explore Threes Steps to Position YOUrself for Success and the Three Things they will need in addition to getting a good education! Come check it out and discover The Power of “I AM”!
Chat GPT and Other AI Tools: How and When to Use Them
- Curious about Chat GPT and other AI tools? Learn how learn language AI tools work and when and if you should use them for research.
Servant Leadership
- What does it mean to be a servant leader and why is it an important model of leadership? We will explore the traits of a servant leader and look at various examples. The goal is that each person would see the significance of embodying humility and empowering people, in order to create a culture where people feel valued no matter their role, status, or title.
Ethical Citizenship
- Ethical Leadership applies to many aspects of your life. This session will explore how to understand, educate for, enact and be an overall ethical citizen.
HOW TO EARN A CERTIFICATE
- Complete four sessions to receive a certificate.
- You choose the sessions you want to attend via Zoom, Handshake, Skills to Succeed or in person.
- Any combination of in-person sessions or special session offerings will be accepted.
- A completion certificate will be emailed to you.
