Through TechCred, organizations can enroll employees in high-quality, flexible training programs at Stark State College and receive reimbursement from the state upon completion.

How does TechCred work?

For Employers: Eligible employers can receive a reimbursement up to $2,000 per credential per employee, with a maximum of $30,000 per funding round, which are six times a year.

For Employees: TechCred offers employees the opportunity to gain cutting-edge skills or enhance existing skills —all at no cost to the individual.

Steps to get started

Determine what training is needed.

Select the Stark State program(s) or short-term certificates that address those needs, determine total cost (tuition, fees, books, supplies). Don’t see what you’re looking for? Email us – workforce@starkstate.edu – to schedule a time to discuss!

Employees eligible for tuition reimbursement through the TechCred Program must be W-2 employees and residents of the State of Ohio. In order to submit an application for the tuition reimbursement, you must first create a TechCred account and apply for a Supplier ID number with the State of Ohio (see instructions below).

  1. Go to the TechCred website (techcred.ohio.gov/apply).
  2. Select option to create a new account.
  • It is recommended that the person who will be administering to the account and responsible for monitoring emails and responding to deadlines set-up the account. This person will receive all notices regarding approval, reminders etc. and will have the password to access the account to submit applications for funding.
  • Typically a representative from HR or finance.
  • You will need the company tax ID number.

APPLY FOR A SUPPLIER ID

If your company does not already have a Supplier ID number for the State of Ohio, your will be directed to submit an application for one in order to create your TechCred Account and submit an application for tuition reimbursement.

  • This might take up to 10 business days, so you are encourage to do this in advance of the application deadline.
  • In the event you do not have a Supplier ID assigned one week prior to the application deadline, the application submission process is typically unlocked in order for you to be able to submit a contingent application. The application is accepted provided that you submit the Supplier ID to TechCred within 10 business days in order to complete your application and remove the contingencies.
  1. Log-into your account at TechCred link: https://ohid.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/ohid/login
  2. Click on the Apply Button
  3. Select the Appropriate Category from the dropdown menu based on the Credential being submitted:
  4. Select the appropriate credential for each enrollee.
  5. If you are submitting less than 15 slots, click on add another credential and complete the same form with the next credential. Repeat until you complete your 15 slots and submit.

An employee can be listed for multiple credentials – ie: Level 1, 2 and 3 in the same application.

  1. Typically within 4 weeks of the submission of your application, the administrator will receive and email indicating if the application was approved and that you will soon be receiving an agreement that identifies the terms of the grant.
  2. Within 2-4 weeks you will receive the written grant agreement specifying the terms: Effective date (typically 2-4 months prior to the approval date), period (from effective date to 18 months from acceptance date), instructions for status reports.
  3. Sign and return a scanned copy of the agreement to TechCred at the indicated email address
  4. Within 4 weeks, you will receive an email with a fully executed agreement. Make note on your calendar the dates of required Status Reports.

Enroll your employee(s) in Stark State’s courses and programs – See the list of TechCred eligible Stark State programs below.

Status reports are required to be submitted six months from the effective date of the agreement and every six months thereafter.

Note: The effective date is always several months prior to the actual approval date. This is because you can submit for retroactive tuition reimbursement for programs taken for a period of time prior to the approval of the application.

Mark your calendars to be sure to submit the appropriate status report for each round of funding where an application was approved.

  1. Log-into your account at TechCred link: https://ohid.ohio.gov/wps/portal/gov/ohid/login and scroll down to the “Submit for Reimbursement” section and click on the “Submit or Review” button. Please make sure you log in with the username and password that was created at the time of application.
